Vinyl Record Crates

Vinyl record storage is hard to come by. I originally wanted some unfinished wooden crates from Michael's for $14.99 each, but they have been sold out in Missouri. I showed the hubs what I wanted and he was happy to oblige. Well he did anyway.

Deer Silhouette

Chevron was everywhere and I was a little sad I didn't have much in my house. So I got some scrap thin plywood from the garage and painted zig-zags using extra Zinser primer and leftover black paint from the mirror molding project. This is my paint by number masterpiece.

Introduction to our flooring!

So carpet has been my nemesis forever because of my allergies. They're real people. Also, I know that vacuuming the surface doesn't get the floor underneath clean and that grosses me out. I thought apartment carpet was bad, but then we got this house. Apparently a ginormous Lab lived here which is cool. Slobs who don't clean up after a Lab are not cool.

Of course I love wood floors but we just used our savings for a deposit and we'd probably be moving before we could afford wood. My next favorite is tile. They have tiles that look like wood- those too are out of my league.

That left me with laminate. I had a bad taste in my mouth when talking about laminate. I thought it looked terrible, bubbled and I hate orange oak tones. So here I was one day goofing off on pinterest when I find a pin that had like 2000 likes/re-pins. The floor is super gorgeous. It turned out to be laminate! So I immediately guessed it would still be out of my price range but the blog said it was at SAM'S CLUB! Well that's basically Wal-Mart so I assumed it was crappy.

This lady (http://www.theyellowcapecod.com/2011/10/more-on-floor.html) has all these comments of people saying they put in like 2000 sq feet and they have pets and they drop stuff and they are normal like me. So we went to Sam's and bough a box. Then we let the dogs run like crazy all over it. No damage. I was sold. It's called Select Surfaces Canyon Oak and it comes with its own foam backer and its the wide plank and IT'S NOT CARPET!

I could only afford one room so we decided we would start with the master bedroom because that's where we slept and I hated waking up with a stuffy nose and sore throat.

Boxes for the bedroom. You have to let them sit in the humidity and temperature of your house for at least 48 house before installation.

Pulling up the carpet and pad. Look at all the stains! Gross.

Ry put down the moisture barrier with a lot of overlap and then got to work on laying the boards. There was so much dust from the carpet pad breakdown that just got everywhere.

Love how the boards install SUPER tightly and also that there are about 6 different patterns so it doesn't look so homogenous.

Updated Guest Room

Not too much is different, but it is nice to see the new nightstand in there

In the process of replacing these knobs

SpaGeddy costume 2012 for Geddy Lee

Again with the puns. Geddy Lee is named after my idol, the bassist of Rush, but I couldn't resist the low-hanging fruit with a SpaGeddy costume.

Sewed the shirt with some velcro for her to wear easily. Then bough some yarn that was pretty thick and glued in evenly on the back. The meatballs are Styrofoam and painted brown. It was the best I could do. Hot glue again helped attach the meatballs.

All the meatballs arranged nicely, now could begin painting the red "sauce" on

Last minute I decided to add a parmesan container and since I'm from StL-there could be only one.

Kind blurry pic but you can see the sauce and the meat balls.

Can't see it too much here, but I bought a musical Hallmark card at the store and ripped it out of the card. The thing played "That's amore". I attached it to the bottom and back of Geddy's costume so when she walked I could make the music play.

Doctor Who mugs

I am always amazed at how good some people are at drawing. I am not them. So I saw this picture on Pinterest and immediately wanted to do something similar.

So we went to the thrift store and bought 4 Tardis blue mugs for $2.00. Then we went to Hobby Lobby with a 30% off coupon and got a porcelain marking pen. And then I tried my hardest to draw Doctor Who characters. But I sucked at it so my husband had to scrap off the marker, wash the mugs and let me try again. This is as good as mine got. But at least they aren't plain blue any more.

Game Room renovation and design

So this was a horrible brown room and was just used for storage. We never went in there and honestly tried to ignore it. One problem- it is right off of the front door. We decided it needed a change. We gave the red couch that got me through med school to my brother and started fresh. And by fresh I mean from craigslist.

The old...

Mostly a room for the dogs to lounge in the sun and store crates

Beginning the reno. Carpet is mostly ripped up and the brown is really showing its ugly.

Super dark even with the windows open

These were on clearance at Target for $16 each. Not exactly a steal, but inspiration is born. My husband ok'd the pink and I ran with it. If you give a mouse a cookie so to speak. Don't you love the floors in this picture too?

Browsing craigslist to find a wicker trunk. The hubs hates wicker but I knew we could do something with it for not too much money. I paid either $20 or $25 for it because it wasn't perfect and then decided to cover it with Watermelon Krylon paint.

While browsing vintage shops in St. Louis I found this beauty. It was WAAAY more expensive than almost anything in my house at $114 but I had to have the cane back and loved the shape of it. The fabric looks atrocious here, but when we got it home it was actually kinda nice in an old person way.

The walls were painted the same essential grey as the office and guest bedroom. There are two layers of cove ceiling and the grey up there made it look so much taller! You can see the floors are in this picture too- waaay better than the beige nasty carpet. The poofs are in there and the unpainted trunk too. The grey flower rug is $19.99 from Ikea and finally looks good with the paint.

This is a chair listed on craigslist for $30. It used to be a banquet hall chair and it was hideous. So I bought it.

The chair is on the right. Husband took all the cushions off it and is using no sanding Zinser oil primer on the chair and the table. The table is another sweet Craigslist find for $10 buckaroos and was the same color as the chair. We are actually doing this on the porch- in all fairness it was raining but we are a little Hoosier too.

Same pieces with Zinser on them, awaiting white latex paint to finish.

Different angle, but you can start to tell they will look good in there

Krylon Watermelon painted trunk and my precious floors!

So I wanted to recover the chairs in Waverly Santa Maria Desert Flower fabric. Problem is it was $29.99/yard. Well if I had that much money to spend on fabric, I wouldn't be DIY-ing all this furniture! The photo on the left are the fabrics I tried to like and the photo on the right is the dream Desert Flower fabric.

Long story short- I HAD to get my fabric. It was perfect for me. I got it at Hobby Lobby using a 30% off coupon, but it still hurt me quite a bit. After finishing the room though, I wouldn't have been happy with anything else. We still needed to recover the cane back chair.

The cane chair recovered with a close-up view at the piping trim.

The round chair piping on the back and the seat. The back piping was a bit of a trick and took three tries to get right

After recovering the yellow cane chair and adding some dog photos onto the wall.

The bar side of the game room. The shelving unit was also craigslist for $40. How lucky can you get.
